A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study examined TA-65® for Skin in 35 individuals with UV-damaged skin. Over a period of 16 weeks, it was tested whether changes in skin appearance as well as certain histological and inflammation-related parameters could be observed. telomerescience.com
The investigation refers to cosmetic changes to the skin and does not permit any conclusions regarding medical treatment of skin aging or skin diseases.
How was the study designed?
35 individuals with UV-damaged skin participated in the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The study lasted 16 weeks. Examinations took place at the beginning as well as after 4, 8, and 16 weeks. telomerescience.com
The participants were assigned to either a TA-65® for Skin group or a placebo group. The placebo cream was formulated and packaged identically but did not contain the active ingredient TA-65®. For objective assessment, UV spots, wrinkles, pigment spots, and skin redness, among other things, were recorded using an imaging skin analysis system.
What results were observed?
According to the study, the TA-65® for Skin group showed a lower score in the recorded UV spots compared to the placebo group after 16 weeks. Changes in uneven pigmentation were also observed after 8 and 16 weeks. Telomer Science
In skin biopsies, changes in inflammation-related markers and an increase in collagen content were also described after 16 weeks. The authors also reported indications of better preservation of elastin structures. Tasciences
The results come from a small cosmetic study with 35 participants and should be interpreted with appropriate caution. They do not substantiate any medical treatment of UV-related skin damage or skin diseases.
How should the results be interpreted?
The study provides initial controlled data on TA-65® for Skin in UV-damaged skin. The randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled study design is a positive aspect.
At the same time, the number of participants at 35 is small and the observation period of 16 weeks is relatively short. The results should therefore be understood as preliminary indications that would need to be confirmed by larger and longer-term studies.
